30,184 votes make Laporta the new FC Barcelona president

The 2003-10 incumbent is back for more at Camp Nou

FC Barcelona fans have voted and Joan Laporta is the club’s new president.

He took 30,184 votes on March 7, enough to make him president for the next six years.

Victor Font and Toni Freixa received 16,679 and 4,769 votes respectively.

The election was originally called for January 24 but moved back because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Of the 22,811 socios who applied for postal votes, 20,663 returned them, the first time it has been allowed.

The rest of the supporters voted in person at Camp Nou in Barcelona, as well as at stations in Lleida, Tortosa, Tarragona, Girona and Andorra.

A total of 55,611 socios voted, more than in the 2015 elections which Josep Maria Bartomeu won - 47.270. This election came close to the 2010 vote, where 57,088 fans voted.
