The forward was sentenced to six months in the clink but he will not go

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa agreed to a fine of nearly 550,000 euros in court on Thursday, in lieu of a six-month jail sentence for tax fraud.

The forward wore a mask to protect against the spread of coronavirus.

Prosecutors wanted a 507,000 euro fine plus six months in the can for Costa but he paid an additional 36,500 euros to avoid that penalty.

The former Chelsea forward, 31, did not declare one million in image rights and 5.1 million from his 2014 transfer to Stamford Bridge from Atletico, where he returned.
