Mbappe and Griezmann are the most likely from the World Cup winners

France coach Didier Deschamps believes that the Ballon d'Or should be given to one of the 23 players who helped Les Bleus win the World Cup in Russia this summer. However, he was unwilling to single anyone out.

"I hope that a French player wins the Ballon d'Or, it would be great," the ex-Monaco boss said in an interview on Saturday with L'Equipe.

Deschamps is aware that "for what they represent" Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo "are always there" and that behind them is the Brazilian Neymar.

But he adds that his players would deserve the prize "for what they have done at the World Cup and for what they have won," although he turned down the chance to say who he would choose.

The favourites among the France squad are Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe, although last year's winner Ronaldo remains the favourite.
