Coronavirus at Barça: Basketball star Mirotic tests positive
The club had announced there was a case but not named the player
Nikola Mirotic is the Barcelona basketball player who has tested positive for coronavirus. Mirotic himself confirmed the news in a short message on social media on Tuesday. On Sunday. Barça had announced that a player had tested positive without naming names. It's not been confirmed that the affected party is the club's franchise player.
The players underwent PCR tests over the weekend after the EuroLeague game against Zenit. The Russian side have suffered a number of cases with eight players and four coaches -- including former Barça coach Xavi Pascual -- testing positive.
Mirotic said on Tuesday: "I want to tell you all I have tested positive for COVID19 and unfortunately will not be able to play in the game today (against Valencia). I feel good and I am following the medical advice. I want to wish luck to my teammates, I will be following from afar."
Here's the message he posted in Spanish:
Quiero contaros que he dado positivo por COVID19 y desgraciadamente no podré estar en el partido de hoy. Me encuentro bien y estoy siguiendo las indicaciones médicas. Quiero desear mucha suerte a mis compañeros, les apoyaré desde la distancia! #ForcaBarca
