The Barcelona coach was happy after his team moved 12 points clear of Los Blancos

Xavi Hernandez was very satisfied with the victory over Real Madrid that leaves FC Barcelona very close to winning the league title after three seasons without lifting the trophy. The Terrassa native stressed that Barça were superior to Real Madrid: "It's a very important and deserved victory. We deserved this result, which reflects what the match was like, because we were far superior to Real Madrid. We dominated, we had more chances and we were better than them. It's a victory that gives us a lot of morale and a lot of confidence."

The Blaugrana coach congratulated his players for the good game they played: "I'm very happy, because everyone is working hard. There is little talk that we are doing an extraordinary league campaign and I am very happy for my players, because they suffer with the criticism. We gave everything we had against a great team that was showing all its power in the last few games. Real Madrid is a team that always makes life difficult for you, but we knew how to mature the game. We hadn't beaten Real Madrid at home for five years and we conceded an unfair goal, but we were able to react."

Xavi recalled: "We mustn't forget where we came from. Last year we were 15 points behind Real Madrid and now we're 12 points behind them. It's time to evaluate things."

In this respect, he was surprised by the doubts expressed by Carlo Ancelotti about the VAR's decision: "I'm surprised that Ancelotti has doubts about the disallowed goal, because it's a scientific question. It is clearly offside and there is no doubt. If people are talking about the VAR today, it's a joke. The offside is very clear."

Xavi admitted that he experienced his first Clasico at Camp Nou as a coach with great intensity: "I have more pressure than I had as a player and at many moments I got goosebumps because of the atmosphere and the way the game ended. It was the perfect script".

The man from Terrassa also had a nod for the fans, highlighting the communion that is being created with the team: "I thought about the game against Bayern, where the fans cheered us on until the last moment despite the 0-3 scoreline. They deserved a victory like this and it gave me goosebumps. This harmony with the team is fantastic."

Xavi didn't want to take the title for granted: "We don't feel like champions, but it's a very important step". He did, however, highlight his team's good run in the domestic competition: "We've scored a lot of points. In fact, we've only lost ten in the whole league and that's not by chance. We are being very solid in defence and on top of that tonight we have been very good in attack".

The Blaugrana coach referred to the two 'heroes' of the night, Sergi Roberto and Franck Kessie: "I had doubts until the last moment between one and the other. They were the two options and they both worked out well. They both scored and came out on top. I don't know what to say about Sergi. We don't value him, but that's the sadness of this club. He has always been an example and as a coach it is fantastic to coach him."
