De Jong injured in Clasico defeat after playing through pain barrier

The Barcelona midfielder started the game even though he had a problem

Bad news for Barcelona. As well as the defeat against Real Madrid in the Clasico, Frenkie de Jong also ended the game injured.

The Dutch midfielder had problems before the game but decided to force the issue to avoid having to miss the match against Madrid.

However, he had to be taken off and ended the game making things worse. He's practically ruled out of Wednesday's game at Rayo Vallecano and is a doubt for Alaves on Saturday.

De Jong's performance in the Clasico was short of his best and coach Ronald Koeman removed him after 77 minutes for Sergi Roberto, aware of his fitness issue.

Barça's No.21 has played every game this season with the exception of Levante, which he missed through suspension. Koeman will now have to redesign his midfield.
