Tuchel confirms he wanted to sign Suarez for PSG

The Chelsea coach spoke ahead of facing the Uruguayan striker

Former PSG coach Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he tried to bring Luis Suarez to the French club. Speaking ahead of his new team, Chelsea’s clash with Suarez’s current club, Atletico Madrid, Tuchel was asked about the Uruguayan.

“There was the chance he was going to leave Barcelona. We tried but he preferred to stay in Spain and sign for Atletico,” said Tuchel.

Suarez is level with Leo Messi on 16 goals at the top of Spain’s scoring charts this season.

There was talk of him joining not only PSG but Juventus, until he eventually settled on Atletico. He left for free but with a payment of six million euros in variables possible, penning a two year deal. He scored 198 goals for Barca in 283 games, the third top scorer of all time.

“We were interested in signing one of the best forwards in world football, I think he’s a born striker. He has that quality that forwards all have. He wants to show his will to score, score and score again. We know his qualities and will try to stop him.”
