Monday's draw was plagued with errors which embarrassed the governing body

UEFA have confirmed the draw for the Champions League last 16 will have to be redone after mistakes plagued the original draw on Monday.

Manchester United were incorrectly paired with Villarreal at first -- they couldn't face each other as they qualified from the same group -- but the real gaffe came after.

Those in charge of the draw didn't include United in the pot when drawing Atletico Madrid's opponents, with the Spanish side going on to draw German giants Bayern Munich.

United were eventually last out, drawing Paris Saint-Germain, although none of that now matters.

"Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16," UEFA announced.

"As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and will be entirely redone at 15:00 CET."

Atletico led the complaints against the original draw as United's absence from the pot increased their chances of drawing Bayern, one of the favourites for the competition.
