PSG, like everyone else in Europe this season, were unable to cope with Bayern's intensity

It was joy for Philippe Coutinho and Bayern Munich as a Kingsley Coman header saw the Germans edge past PSG 1-0 in the Champions League final.

The opening 15 minutes were dominated by Bayern but the first real chance of the match fell to Paris Saint Germain. Mbappe played the ball into Neymar who forced Neuer into a smart save to keep the scoreline goalless.

Then it was PSG’s turn to have their heart in their mouths as Davies sent a low cross towards Lewandowski. It was behind the Polish striker but he managed to get it under control and unleash a quick shot which caught Navas out. The ball flew past the Costa Rican international but, unfortunately for Lewandowski, it cannoned off the post.

Bayern lost Boateng to injury midway through the first half and was replaced by Sule.

A cross from Kimmich took a deflection off Kimpembe and somehow Lewandowski managed to direct a header goalwards. Those quick reactions were then matched by Navas who made the save.

On the stroke of half-time PSG were presented with a golden chance. Bayern give the ball away on the edge of their ball and, even worse than that, the ball lands at Mbappe’s feet. He plays a one-two with Di Maria but his shot isn’t strong enough to concern Neuer.

Bayern had a late penalty appeal turned down when Coman was adjudged to dived, rather than being fouled by Kehrer, and the referee waved play on.

The early stages of the second half was scrappy as the two sides exchanged fouls and bookings.

Approaching the hour mark, Bayern produced a moment of quality and undid PSG’s steady rearguard. Kimmich floated into a magnificent cross to the back post and there was Coman, the man who replaced Perisic in the starting XI, to cooly nod it across Navas and into the far corner.

PSG went to sleep in the minutes following Coman’s goal. Kimpembe, thankfully, didn’t. He pulled out an incredible diving header to clear the ball away when it seemed destined for Lewandowski to tap in. The French centre back was needed soon after to whack the ball away from the goal-line.

Neymar sent Mbappe running down the flank to test the defensive side of Kimmich’s game. The young prodigy skipped inside and was brought down by the defender. On first look, Kimmich seemed to get the ball but replays later showed that it got Mbappe’s foot instead. No one appealed for a penalty and VAR didn’t check it either.

It wasn’t to be PSG’s night. They didn’t have the game-changers on the bench to turn the situation around. Neymar’s shot-cum-cross was just out of Choupo-Moting’s reach.

Bayern would see out the game and become European champions for the sixth time.
