UEFA will not move last 16 ties but quarterfinals on will be played on Portugal

UEFA are moving ahead with plans to restart the Champions League and now it's just a case of everything being approved at their next video meeting, which will take place on June 17.

The final of the competition has a new date and a new venue. It was supposed to be played at the end of May in Istanbul but will instead take place on Aug. 23 at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

Benfica's stadium is one of those chosen to host the latter stages of the competition, along with Porto's Estadio do Dragao and another ground to be decided, with UEFA keen to play the quarterfinals, semifinals and final in Portugal. All games will be one leg.

LAST 16

In contrast, the remaining last 16 games will be played where they had been originally scheduled to be played. That means Barcelona will host Napoli (1-1 from the first leg in Italy) and Real Madrid will travel to Manchester City (the English side won 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu), among other fixtures.

The idea had been floated to play those fixtures in Portugal, too, but received criticism and will now remain at the designated stadiums.

Everything needs to be approved at next week's meeting.
