Champions League draw: Madrid to face Liverpool in quarterfinal, PSG vs. Bayern

The draw took place on Friday for the last eight and the semifinals

Real Madrid will meet Liverpool in the quarterfinals of the Champions League next month.

Madrid are the only Spanish side left in the competition after Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla were all knocked out in the last 16.

Zinedine Zidane's side, who last won the competition in 2018 when they beat Liverpool in the final 3-1, are targeting the trophy for the 14 time.

Liverpool, who responded to losing to Madrid by winning the Champions League in the following season, have been crowned Europe's best team on six occasions.

Madrid will be at home in the first leg although there are doubts over whether the game will be played in the Spanish capital.

In the round of 16, the Spanish government didn't allow English teams to enter the country due to coronavirus restrictions, with Atletico forced to play their match against Chelsea in Bucharest.

The highlight of the quarterfinal is perhaps Bayern Munich's game against Paris Saint-Germain, who knocked out Barca.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will take on Porto, while Manchester City have been paired with Borussia Dortmund.

If Madrid beat Liverpool, they will play the winners of Chelsea vs. Porto in the semifinal, while Bayern or PSG will meet either City of Dortmund.
