Wolfsburg 2-0 Barcelona (3-5): European champions reach final again

Barça will have the chance to retain the trophy they won last season in Turin on May 21

Barcelona are into the UEFA Women's Champions League final despite tasting defeat for the first time this season on Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 by Wolfsburg.

Barca won the first leg 5-1 last week and had won 45 games in a row, dating back to June, before falling to defeat in Germany in the second leg of the semifinal.

Goals from Tabea Wassmuth and Jill Roord secured the win on the night for Wolfsburg, but Barça progressed to the final courtest of a 5-3 aggregate win.

Jonatan Giraldez's side will meet either Lyon, who knocked out Paris Saint-Germain, in the final in Turin in May, after the two French sides faced off later on Saturday.

Barca were subdued in the first half, unsure whether to play their usual attacking game or to defend what they had. Despite that, they still had the majority of the ball and the best chances.

Wolfsburg came closest through Roord, who was denied by Sandra Paños, while Ana-Maria Crnogorčević wasted Barca's best opening just before the break.

The home side improved in the second half and took the lead almost immediately. Wassmuth found the bottom corner from 20 yards via a deflection after Barça had failed to clear their lines.

Roord made it two after 60 minutes, winning the ball back in the Barça half before beating Paños from 25 yards.

Barça did well to take back control of the ball, though, at a moment when a third Wolfsburg goal would have really roused the record home crowd of just over 22,000.

There was a late flurry from the German side but Barça held tight to book a second successive Champions League final and a third in four years.
