Claudio Ranieri is in charge in Rome until the summer

Jose Mourinho has turned down an offer to coach Roma next season, according to a report published in The Sun.

Claudio Ranieri is the Rome club's temporary coach following the sacking of Eusebio di Francesco, but the club are searching for someone else to take over long term.

Mourinho's reported to have been the first option, but the Portuguese coach has declined the offer. Following his no, Maurizio Sarri has emerged as an option should he leave Chelsea and return to Italy.

A few weeks ago, Mourinho boasted of having turned down various offers. The rumour mill suggests he's waiting to see what happens at Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, two teams who've come up short in Europe this season.

Manchester United sacked Mourinho in December following a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool.
