Ronaldo and Juve were knocked out of the Champions League in midweek by Porto

Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo were knocked out of the Champions League for the third year in a row, the second time in the last 16. This time by Porto, a big victory in Turin.

Giovanni Cobolli, the former Juventus president, was critical of the Portuguese forward this week, not just for his big error in the wall for the free-kick that helped Porto win the game.

“Cristiano Ronaldo was a mistaken buy? Absolutely yes,” said Cobolli on Radio Punto Nuovo. “I said it from the first day, showing appreciation for what a champion he is, but he costs too much and it conditions the team too much.

“It’s up to Juve to sell Ronaldo or not but he costs a million per goal.”

He did not blame coach Andrea Pirlo for the defeat. “Agnelli risked it, I’m not critical of Pirlo. The team had big absentees, like Dybala, but where would he have played? Juve need to be reconstructed.”
