Cristiano Ronaldo says rape claims against him are "fake news"

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to reports that he raped a woman in Las Vegas in 2009 as "fake news". 

"They want to promote themselves through my name," Ronaldo said on Instagram. "It's normal. They want to be famous. But that's part of [my] job. I am a happy man and everything is fine." 

The case over an alleged rape was re-opened against Cristiano Ronaldo in Nevada, United States last week.

Almost a year and a half after the first reports of the case, German publication Der Spiegel has revealed the name of the victim, who they interview.

Her lawyers have called into question the compensation agreement which was reached in 2009 and are "questioning the validity" of the settlement in a civil complaint.   

Kathryn Mayorga, 34, is the women who Ronaldo supposedly violated in 2009 and then subsequently paid her 375,000 dollars for her silence. Mayorga, who has spoken about the incident for the first time in public, explained how it happened.

The rape took place in silence and he asked her if she was in pain. She says Ronaldo fell to his knees afterwards and said "99 percent of the time he was a good guy, let down by one percent." She had repeatedly asked him to stop. 

Remember that Ronaldo denied the allegations and said the sex was consented. Der Spiegel reveal that the lawyers' new complaing is based on a document containing the Juventus star's account of what happened in 2009. In it, the 33-year old is quoted as saying "she said 'no' and 'stop' several times."
