The former Bayern boss will return to take Ancelotti's place on the bench

Heynckes won the treble in his final season before Pep Guardiola's arrival

Former Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes will return to the club to replace Carlo Ancelotti, according to a report in Sport Bild.

Heynckes, 72, will take on the job until the end of the season, when Bayern are likely to announce a new full time manager.

The report has not yet been confirmed by either party.

Heynckes left Bayern in 2013 after winning the treble, replaced by former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.

Thomas Tuchel and Luis Enrique were among the names mentioned as possible replacements for Ancelotti, with both out of work.

They may be in the running at the end of the season, too, as will Hoffenheim's Julian Nagelsmann.

If confirmed, Heynckes will be coaching Bayern for the fourth time. His first spell was 1987-1991, his second spell in 2009 and his third from 2011-2013.
