Samuel Umtiti is not in Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman's plans. The club are looking to move him on but the issues with his knee since the 2018 World Cup are making it difficult to place him.
A lot of clubs have reportedly shown an interest but nothing has advanced yet. It's not ruled out that Barça will let him go for free in the end. For now, his brother, who's also his agent, has accepted the challenge of looking for a new team.
France Football have reported some of the possible destinations for Umtiti. Here they are.
The Premier League side need to strengthen their defence as they seek a reliable partner for Harry Maguire. So far, Victor Lindelöf and Eric Bailly have failed to convince and Chris Smalling is expected to return to Roma, where he spent last season on laon.
Returning to Lyon is perhaps the safest option. The problem, in this case, is financial. Umtiti could be involved in a deal for Memphis Depay. "We know he's a very good defender," Lyon coach Rudi Garcia has said. "But I don't know if it's possible economically."
Umtiti has also been offered as bait in a deal for Inter striker Lautaro Martinez. It would give him the chance to play in the Champions League and compete for Serie A, but there are doubts about his fitness at the Italian club.
The Gunners are looking for a leader in the middle of their defence and Umtiti could take on that role. Under Mikel Arteta, he would line up alongside his friend and former Lyon teammate Alexandre Lacazette. He would be a good signing for Arsenal.
The French side are very interested in Umtiti. However, a deal would only be possible on a free transfer and if Umtiti was willing to take a wage cut. A loan could also be possible, given the main problem is financial.
