Zubimendi shuts door on Barça as he confirms La Real renewal hope
Barcelona have identified the midfielder as a possible Busquets replacement
Barcelona would like to sign Martin Zubimendi to replace Sergio Busquets in the long-term but it seems the Real Sociedad player has different intentions.
Speaking to Cadena SER after La Real's enthralling 5-3 win over Girona on Sunday, he said he was ready to renew his contract in San Sebastian.
"I hope so," he said when asked about extending. "The feelings are good and it will be a question of time."
However, he didn't want to speak about any possible interest from Barça and only spoke about his commitment to his current employers.
"[Rumours] don't worry me right now," he added. "I have to be focused on what's to come, which is a really tough schedule, and giving everything until the World Cup."
Does he hope to make the Spain squad for the finals? "You always have hope but it is difficult. If I have still not been part of the squad... there is not long until the World Cup, so it's difficult."
