Xavi's secret meetings with Barça's transfer targets
The coach has been speaking to players whom Barcelona intend to sign in the summer
A few weeks ago Xavi Hernandez said that he was not just interested in the planning for 2022-23 but an active part of it. The coach explained that the club is taking decisions with him, the sporting directors, including Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff and the president Joan Laporta. He also did not deny meeting Erling Haaland.
In-person or via video link, Xavi has spoken to all the players Barcelona want to sign for next season, to explain to them the model, the idea of the game and the peculiarities of the ‘best club in the world’. Not just with Haaland, but with Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie and Pablo Torre, the first players Barcelona have signed for next season.
The coach has played an important role in convincing the two free agents to join, and the young talent too.
He is also in contact with Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta. The defender is harder to bring in, especially given Chelsea’s situation at the moment. They are losing Christensen and Antonio Rudiger and currently cannot reinforce their squad.
Barcelona’s economic situation is still fragile too, so Xavi is having an important effect in the ‘low-cost’ market.
