Xavi's Mission Impossible? Helping Coutinho back to his best

| sport

The Brazil midfielder has had a tough time since becoming Barça's record signing

Xavi Hernandez has various issues to resolve after taking over as Barcelona coach. One of them is helping Philippe Coutinho re-find his form, the most expensive signing in the club's history and the highest-paid player in the squad.

Coutinho's not played a minute in the last two games under interim coach Sergi Barjuan. It was even suggested that he refused to come on against Celta Vigo, saying there's "no need" to warm up so close to half-time when asked to do so by Barjuan.

However, in Brazil, Coutinho has commented that he was "surprised when I got home and saw that news. I have never lacked professionalism in my life. I always respect everyone, everyone I have worked with. But it's OK, I respect the opinion of the journalists."

Xavi's aware he needs to help Coutinho back to his best to increase competition. The Brazilian has not fitted in since joining from Liverpool.

On Xavi's arrival, Coutinho has said: "He was a great player, an idol. And now he's back home in Barcelona. I hope he has a lot of success with the group we have. I was able to speak with him once when I visited a doctor in Qatar. I know he's a great guy and he will do a great job at Barcelona."

The situation will not be easy to manage because according to Onze Coutinho's relationship with the dressing room is not good. What is more, there were complaints about his attitude in Vigo. However, Xavi's experienced many situations in his career and could find the method to help him recover his form.

If he does, president Laporta and Barça supporters would be eternally grateful.
