The former Barça midfielder is closer than ever to a return to Camp Nou

There will be a key meeting on Thursday regarding Xavi's return to Barcelona. The Al Sadd coach will meet with Mohamad bin Khalifa al Thani to negotiate his exit from Qatar.

The president of Al Sadd was not present at Wednesday's meeting between delegates from both clubs. Xavi was with Barça vice president Rafa Yuste and director of football Mateu Alemany on Thursday morning and the sensations were good.

Barça president Joan Laporta does not plan to travel to Doha to deal with the issue personally, so it will be Xavi who speaks to Al Thani in Barça's name. He has everything agreed previously with regards to an approach from Barcelona, but the agreement now needs to be pushed through.

In fact, on Wednesday. Xavi had time to speak with Yuste and Alemany about the strategy to follow. Barça don't want to pay the €5 million release clause, although they are ready to offer alternatives like a friendly between the two sides. In any case, the next 48 hours will be key as Barça close in on a replacement for Ronald Koeman.
