The striker's suspension remains on hold until there is a resolution

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández has indicated that Robert Lewandowski should be available for the match against Atlético Madrid on Sunday because the precautionary sanction imposed by a court may remain in force.

"I think that Lewandowski will be (available) against Atlético and that is why we have given him rest, (against Intercity in the Copa del Rey), just like Pedri," Xavi said in a press conference on Tuesday.

"We will see what the outcome of his suspension is, but for the moment we have him and that is why he will rest because important games are coming up in the coming weeks and he shall play."

Xavi recognised that the situation is complicated: "I have spoken with the player so that he is calm. At the moment, the sanction is on hold and we are working week by week with the intention that he plays.

"It is not easy because we must we are waiting for the resolution but while working with the idea that he can play. It's not easy or nice for us or for our rivals, who don't know if he'll play or not at the end."

On Espanyol's complaint about Lewandowski playing in the derby, Xavi did not want to comment. "They have done what they see fit. They are within their rights. What we did was obey a judge who allowed him to play."
