Xavi Simons: Believe me, at Barça you don't do much work in the gym

The midfielder is producing some brilliant performances at new club PSV

Xavi Simons is one of the players in fashion in Europe. The former Barcelona midfielder has exploded at PSV Eindhoven, where he has scored 10 goals and set up four more in 19 games. Ruud van Nistelrooy is getting the best out of the youngster in attack. Against Arsenal on Thursday in the Europa League, he played as a false nine.

The ex-Barça player has referred to his time at the club and the changes he quickly noticed when he moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

"Believe me, at Barcelona you don't do a lot of work in the gym, you work with the ball, but not in the gym," he said. "When I went to PSG, I discovered that there they worked in the gym. I saw the differences directly: the French league was very physical."

Despite the potential he showed when playing, the competition at the French club forced him to look for a move elsewhere this past summer. The offer from PSV convinced him and he has quickly settled into life at his new club -- with some suggestions he could even make the Dutch World Cup squad.

"I am taking it in my stride, training hard and giving my all," he added. "Football is my life. Who knows? It is a dream, who does not want to play a World Cup?"
