Xavi interested in a left-footed central defender at Barça

The coach is hoping Lenglet and Umtiti are sold but it will leave a gap of sorts

Xavi wants two players for every spot in the side and one of the positions that’s being looked at is centre-back, even though there are four - Pique, Araujo, Eric and Christensen. Barcelona will try and sell Umtiti and Lenglet and it will mean that there are no left footed centre-backs left.

There are two names that Barcelona have looked at. One is Alessio Romagnoli. The 27 year old Milan defender is a market opportunity, given his contract is up in the summer. Chelsea and Sevilla may also chase him.

Another is Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez. The 24 year old has had a great season but his contract runs til 2025 so it might be hard to sign him - they won’t let him go for less than 25m euros.

At Barcelona they acknowledge a left-footed centre-back is not the main priority given there are four defenders and other positions in more need of support.
