Xavi Hernandez: You can't go in 3-0 up and end up drawing

The coach told the dressing room a thing or two on his first day at training

Xavi Hernandez wanted to make his mark. The coach spoke to the team on his first day and beyond merely presenting himself, he set out some key points to the squad. He said that things like the 3-0 to 3-3 at Balaidos cannot happen again.

The coach first wanted to send out a message of optimism. He is excited for the new era and wanted to encourage those there to row in the same direction to help the team and achieve success.

RULES

He also highlighted some new rules that are being put in place, including the players breakfasting at the Ciutat Esportiva on training days and then having lunch there afterwards.

It’s a series of logical decisions which already apply across most professional teams. Barcelona have not looked after this aspect.

CRITICISM

“You can give a lot more,” said Xavi on what happened against Celta Vigo. “3-0 up at the break, you can never let it slip to a draw, it can’t be.” He highlighted the players have to give all they have, both physically and mentally. Later, he said, there will be time to look at the way of playing and other questions. But for now, order and performance were the key things.
