The midfielder has never hidden his desire to return to Camp Nou

Xavi Hernandez was on of the candidates considered for the Barcelona job when Joan Laporta weighed up sacking Ronald Koeman.

In an interview with 20 minutos, Xavi has spoken clearly about his short and long-term objectives, leaving no doubts about his desire to sit on the Camp Nou bench.

"The idea is to coach Barcelona, I have never hidden that," the Al Sadd coach said. "That's my objective and my dream. I don't know if it will happen or not, if they will need me or not.

"At the moment, I am happy with Al Sadd and very proud to be here. If an offer arrives, it will be looked at and we will make a decision, but I am very happy here."

Xavi added: "During my time with Barça and the Spanish national team, I always tried to do my bit to help and improve the other players, and that's something I am enjoying now as a coach.

"I already did it as captain, but now as manager, I love seeing the evolution of the local players and knowing that I am doing my bit to help."
