Barça coach Xavi stresses: First titles... and then contract renewal
The coach was pleased to hear Laporta's words but gave a condition first
Joan Laporta's words at the Círculo Ecuestre on Tuesday have already been echoed in the form of a response from Xavi Hernández. In quotes given to 'Esport 3', the coach assures that he is grateful for the club's proposal of renewing his deal, but that he considers "objectives in the form of titles must be achieved first".
"Xavi's renewal? I've already considered it, even if we don't win La Liga. I have said it to Xavi, but he insists that if we don't win? No, I want to give him a message of calm", said the president. The coach interprets this as another sign of the absolute trust that exists between the two parties.
If Barça win the league, then he does believe that the right circumstances will be in place to think about a longer-term project. In any case, it doesn't look like a new contract will be signed before May.
