Xavi: Dembele cannot miss out on Barça's offer to renew contract
The French forward is in the final six months of his deal at Camp Nou
Xavi Hernandez has spoken about Ousmane Dembele's situation at Barcelona. The Barça coach said he's not disappointed with the Frenchman and that the process is ongoing.
"Th words is not disappointed," Xavi said. "It's a negotiation. Sometimes advisors and agents can be difficult. But Barca's position is clear and the process is ongoing, nothing else.
"I am still positive. I hope that Ousmane will make an effort [to renew]. Maybe the agents don't understand we're in a complicated situation but we all have to row in the same direction."
Xavi confirmed the offer for Dembele is "fantastic, in football and financial terms. I spoke with him and he wants to make an effort, but we will see in the coming days. I insist: the word is not disappointed, there's always a back and forth in negotiations. Maybe we're far away now but in the coming days, we hope to get closer (to an agreement).
"He's a player who can make the difference and help us a lot. Well coached, he can be one of the best in his position, if not the best, and I believe we need him. He knowsbarça is one of the best clubs in the world, for me the best. It's an opportunity for him. I don't think he can miss out on it."
