More than one person at Barcelona has to ask forgiveness of Frenkie de Jong for having tried to force him out of the club last summer.
The Dutch player resisted the bullying that he was subjected to with the intention that he would accept some offers that were on the table for him, one of them tempting, in the form of Manchester United’s.
Only those who only cared about what De Jong could bring in financially could not see what he might add in a football sense. And he has grown this season under Xavi. The coach, ignoring what was going on in the club offices, believed in De Jong’s talent and has now made him an important player.
Xavi is happy with him because above all, he understands the role that he needs to have in this Barca. More personality, more leadership, more arrivals in the box, more passing vision. Now let’s see who’s going to try and force him out in the winter window!
