The Frenchman went off in the first half of the win at Girona on Saturday

Xavi Hernández confirmed after the victory against Girona (0-1) that Ousmane Dembélé's injury could be serious. The French forward had to be substituted midway through the first half after hurting the quadriceps on his left leg. The early indications do not invite optimism.

"Dembélé? I think there is an important injury," revealed Xavi. "It is a shame because he is one of our most decisive footballers, the most differential. We will see what the tests say, but he felt something. We hope it's as minor as possible."

Dembele has been one of the most important players under Xavi and, following several serious injuries during his Barca career, has remained injury free for over a year under the coach.

His injury at Girona hit Barça's plans as it forced them to switch from two wingers to a midfield four.

"It upset our plans, but Jordi Alba was very good in the second half, opening the pitch and allowing Gavi to enter between the lines," Xavi added.

Dembele's replacement, Pedri, went on to win the game for Barça, scoring the only goal of the game in the second half after good work from Alba.
