The Barcelona coach is looking forward to facing Madrid

Xavi Hernandez says Wednesday’s Clasico will show Barcelona where they are in their development.

Barca meet Real Madrid in the semifinal of the Spanish Supercopa in Saudi Arabia with a place in the final against Atletico Madrid or Athletic Club awaiting the winner.

Barca have improved under Xavi but are still suffering setbacks, like Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Granada, and Xavi called on his players to use Wednesday’s match as a launchpad.

“This game is a huge opportunity to reach a final and it could be a turning point for us," Xavi said Tuesday.

"Madrid are the most in-form side in Spain, the league table shows that, but this is another competition. The Clasico is always unpredictable.

"Reaching the final would represent a point of inflexion. But whatever happens, we will be realistic. It's an important game and a huge test, one which will show us where we are after [two months in charge]."

Madrid are top of LaLiga and 17 points ahead of Barca, who are sixth, but Xavi says this is a different competition and form will go out the window.

“Clásicos are unpredictable,” he added. “I have experienced all types of Clasico. Games when we were big favourites but lost and games we weren’t fancied in only to win or draw at the Bernabeu.

“We will try to use our weapons and compete.”
