Xavi and Laporta seeking formula to bring Puyol back to Barcelona

The coach and the president want the former captain involved at Camp Nou

Both Xavi Hernandez and Joan Laporta would like Carles Puyol to return to Barcelona in the coming months.

Onze on Esport3 has explained that all three parties are looking for a formula to bring the former Barça captain back to the club.

Puyol wants to return to Camp Nou, but he doesn't see himself in an institutional role. He wants to be close to the decision makers.

According to the report, Puyol feels that if he returns he feels he would be useful as a sporting director or a technical director after the departure of Ramon Planes.

Puyol's position is clear, therefore, but Laporta and director of football Mateu Alemany will also have to decide what they think is best for the club and the ex-defender.

They don't feel it's essential to bring in someone new after Planes' exit with Alemany and Jordi Cruyff already at the club.

Therefore, they would prefer Xavi to find a substitute. We will see if they finally find a place for Puyol back at the club.

He will not return as the Manel Estiarte to Pep Guardiola -- that's to say he will not be an assistant to the coach, but an important figure when it comes to making decisions that affect the first team.
