Xavi and Laporta meeting imminent to discuss coach's renewal with Barça

One of FC Barcelona's priorities, in addition to strengthening the squad for the 2023-24 season and lowering the wage bill to be able to sign new players, is the future of Xavi Hernández. The coach's contract expires in June 2024 and the board of directors is in a hurry to close his renewal.

Xavi and president Joan Laporta, who are on good terms, have already spoken to move forward with an agreement and, according to SPORT, the coach, as well as being keen to stay at Barça, is convinced that he will reach a quick consensus with the president.

Although the new contract has to be negotiated, and especially the length of the contract (it could be until June 2026), no setbacks are expected on the financial side. The coach, who knows Barcelona's finances, will adjust his demands to the maximum.

In fact, it should be remembered that this is what Xavi did when Laporta came looking for him in November 2021, when he was on the bench at Al-Sadd in Qatar with a valid contract. Xavi then accepted the challenge of taking charge of the team mid-season with a low salary.

In order to renew his contract, the Barcelona coach will highlight the economic effort he made at that time and the fact that, in his first full season at the helm of the team, the result has been satisfactory, winning the Super Cup and the league.
