Ousmane Dembele is one of the differential factors in this Barcelona team. The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and his renewal is a priority for coach Xavi Hernandez.
However, he's had a small dip in form and he was the second player taken off by Xavi at Real Betis on Saturday. He has set up lots of goals this season, but has only scored two, one in the Copa del Rey against Linares.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday's match vs. Celta Vigo, Xavi spoke about Dembele's renewal and if he understands doubts generated among fans.
"I have no doubts with him," Xavi said. "Even though he's not having much luck in front of goal, he generates a lot of danger. He is a difference-maker. I am very satisfied with him.
"The club know my idea in terms of next season. But there's an agent, a club, a player (all involved)... it won't be easy, but I hope he renews."
Until the end
The days and weeks are passing and the situation has still not been cleared up, but both Xavi and his staff are clear. They will be patient and wait until the end to tie the forward down to a new deal.
