Worry at Barcelona over Frenkie de Jong and his morale

| sport

The midfielder is not enjoying his football at the moment or playing well

Frenkie de Jong arrived at Barcelona as an emerging star. The player took a decision to come to Camp Nou instead of going to PSG for more money. He was thrown in as a starter from day one and adapted well to the club and the team. But his performances have worsened and Barcelona are worried for his low morale.

Xavi believes in him completely but there are big offers on the table and Barcelona need a sale somewhere. The only reality is that the team want to recover him to be one of the standard bearers of the new project buy it also depends on what he wants to do at the end of the season.

De Jong has been disorientated in recent weeks. His top performances came under Koeman last season when he was involved in attacking. Now he is back as an interior and has lost influence on the game. He is not arriving in the box and was exhausted against Munich. He is not enjoying himself.

Xavi made it clear that De Jong is important and cannot be sold. He has spoken with the player to tell him he needs to step up and be one of the best midfielders in the world. The club are happy with his professionalism but also know he’s suffering emotionally because he takes everything seriously. He analyses games after with a lot of precision and is not satisfied with the team’s performance.

The big danger that Barcelona run is that he is not happy there. Liverpool and Bayern would love to bring him in, but it’s up to the player. Coming to Barca was a dream come true but it’s not working out. He needs to find his best position to play well and enjoy himself, while the club needs to make a project where he can win titles.
