With two weeks left in the window, Barça are still missing an affordable alternative at right-back
Issa Kaboré (21), who had been offered by Manchester City to FC Barcelona, has reached an agreement with Olympique de Marseille.
The main task of FC Barcelona in the last two weeks of the transfer market, apart from Bernardo Silva, is to find two guaranteed full-backs, one for the right flank and the other for the left. César Azpilicueta's refusal has upset the club's plans. Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff are working now against the tide to satisfy Xavi Hernández.
Thomas Meunier and Juan Foyth are the top picks in the offices of the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. But Barça are also looking at other alternatives, as with only two weeks left in the market, both Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal are very reluctant to release two key players. One such option, until Wednesday, was Issa Kaboré (21 years).
The young Manchester City player returned to Guardiola's team after a good season 2021/22 on loan in Ligue 1. The Burkina Faso defender played 32 games with Troyes. He has a market value of 4 million euros, although at the Etihad Stadium they hope for 10 million for his transfer. The player was offered to Barça who due to their urgency, did not rule out any option.
Olympique de Marseille, however, pushed very hard in the last hours and have reached an agreement with Manchester City. According to Fabrizio Romano, all the documents for the deal have been approved. The city have reserved an option to buy back the player, which will be extended over the next few years. For now, the final amount of the transfer has not been disclosed.
Issa Kaboré would have been an unknown but much more affordable option, than those of Meunier or Foyth. Barça are currently looking at promising young players without much prominence in big clubs, like the Burkinabe.
