Why Xavi is betting on Adama Traore move

The coach wants to add unpredictability to his attack and Ansu is injured

A new attacking arrival for Barcelona, who need goals and thrust. The team has been too predictable in recent weeks. Ferran Torres, without hitting top form yet, has shown he can help. And Adama Traore is coming to join him.

Xavi and his team have very good reports on Adama from Luis Enrique and the Spanish national team. He formed at La Masia and his physical attributes are well known. Xavi knows him very well; Adama debuted in 2013, shortly before Xavi relieved Puyol of the captain’s armband.

Adama’s signing can be viewed as in part due to Ousmane Dembele’s contract snub and Ansu Fati’s latest injury news. Traore’s arrival is at once independent to those situations but also related.

Mateu Alemany values the versatility Adama can offer, with six positions possible: striker, right winger, left winger, left and right wing backs, and attacking central midfielder.

Xavi wants him in attack but could also use him in the wingback spots if he switches to three centre backs. Sergi Roberto is injured, Dest out of form and Dani Alves is 38.

Adama knows Barcelona and was also a good market opportunity. There are few wingers for sale and most have big prices on them. It’s a chance for him to show he belongs in the elite too.
