The midfielder is set to sign a new deal at Camp Nou soon

Barcelona and Gavi are close to finalishing an agreement that will see the young midfielder extend his contract at Camp Nou until 2026.

Thursday's meeting between the club and Gavi's agent, Ivan de la Peña, ended well, but they have to sort their 'fair play' issue with LaLiga to register a player that is currently still inscribed with the U19 team.

During Thursday's general assembly, president Joan Laporta assured that there is an "anti-Barça law" that makes it difficult to promote young players formed in La Masia to the first team.

Even though he did not give any names, it was clear he was referring to Gavi and Pablo Torre, who joined the club officially from Racing Santander this week.

"Before, we could register players under 23 in our team," Laporta said. "Both from the B team and the U19s. Now they have made a law, surely an anti-Barça law, because we use a lot of young players, that obliges us to include those footballers in the 'fair play'. If we follow the memo, we can't register them."

The mentioned law will make it difficult from now for young players formed in La Masia to go up and down between different teams freely. The said 'fair play' is also conditioning the progression of the latest stars aiming to make it at Camp Nou.
