What Barça will we see today? Koeman's side capable of good & bad

The Catalan side need a win against Elche to keep in the title race

Barcelona have experienced a rollercoaster of emotions this season. When fans sit down in front of the television on Wednesday to watch Ronald Koeman's side take on Elche, they won't know what to expect.

Koeman and the players probably don't know, either. They've been capable of generating excitement this season, such as the Copa comeback against Granada, and killing it, too, with unforgivable dropped points like the draw against Cadiz on Sunday, when they failed to take advantage of leaders Atletico Madrid losing.

The teams in the bottom half of the table have been a problem this season -- more than the top half. At least according to the statistics. Barça have dropped 22 points this season courtesy of five draws and four defeats. Of those points, 14 of them have been against teams in the bottom 10. In concrete, defeats against Getafe (1-0, 15th) and Cádiz (2-1, 14th) and draws with Alavés, (1-1, 16th), Valencia (2-2, 12th), Eibar (1-1, 17th) and, again, Cádiz (1-1).

Bittersweet unbeaten run

All that considered, Barcelona are still in the best form they've been in this season and, if they beat Elche, they will move within five points of Atletico, who will have a game in hand. But the setback against Cadiaz was such a blow that, even though it wasn't a defeat, it left a really sour taste.

Euforia o decepción, el Barça es una montaña rusa de sensaciones

| J. FERRÁNDIZ/V. ENRICH

What's true is that Koeman's side are now 12 games unbeaten in the league, winning nine of those matches and drawing three -- all at Camp Nou against Valencia, Eibar and Cadiz.

A Barça with two faces capable of picking up 30 out of 36 points and, in contrast, conceding goals in eight consecutive games, four of them in La Liga. The last time Ter Stegen kept a clean sheet? Against Elche, Wednesday's opponent, at the Martinez Valero in a 0-2 win.

Therefore, it's reasonable to ask: What Barcelona will we see today?
