With Chelsea not yet back on the scene, there are discussions taking place and the Andalusians need to sell
We’re reaching the end of June and Sevilla have not yet sold Jules Kounde. The president Pep Castro and sporting director Monchi have said in recent days that they don’t need to sell the centre-back and they are calm. That explains their external behaviour, but internally, Sevilla are starting to get a little nervous. Whatever they say, they need to close the sale to be able to shake up the team this summer and stop Kounde becoming an issue in the dressing room. They did not let him leave last summer to Chelsea with a huge offer, and now they may have to sell him for less than they would want.
It’s all because Chelsea have not come back with a big offer. It’s early and the London club could return, but they need to make a lot of signings and maybe wont have enough money to sign everyone. Lukaku leaving means they need a No 9 too. Sevilla know the only team capable of paying 60-65 million for Kounde is Chelsea. So that’s where the worry is, and maybe Barcelona’s chance.
Barcelona are discussing options with Sevilla but they are far apart at the moment, with the Catalans trying to include a player in the deal. That’s not possible at the moment, but with Chelsea off the scene for now, everything can be talked about.
Kounde, meanwhile, is determined to leave Sevilla one way or another. At 24 he does not want to let this opportunity pass. He is tempted by Barcelona even though he was set for CHelsea last summer. The French defender likes playing in LaLiga, but if Chelsea come back with their offer, Barcelona can not match it.
However Kounde was an impossible dream for Barcelona a few weeks ago and now they are in the game. For Xavi he’s a priority, but they are also working on other options in case the Blues return and blow Barcelona out of the water. It’s what Sevilla would prefer.
