The coach was questioned about Barça playing Girona in the States

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde remains sceptical that a La Liga match will be played in the United States after the league confirmed an agreement to play one fixture there this season.

Girona's home match against Barça in the New Year has been slated as a potential game to be moved, but Valverde said h knows nothing about it amid reports Girona have already been approached.

"I don’t know if the league have spoken with Girona but they haven’t spoken with me," he said.

That game is due to take place in January and Valverde said if there are developments, that will be the time to tackle the issue.

"When the moment arrives we will see, we will talk then," he added. "It is all still a bit green right now. There’s intention for a game to be played [in the U.S] but other voices are pushing in another direction."

SUPPORTS FOR THE PLAYERS

On the possibility that the players call a strike in protest against taking a game to the U.S, as suggested by PFA chief David Aganzo, Valverde called for the players to be consulted before these decisions are taken.

"We will see what happens, but what’s clear in respect to this issue is that the players are an important part of the process," the coach said.

"They have a voice and they also have something to say. The only thing they’re saying [at the momnt] is that they should be kept in mind when these type of decisions are made [by La Liga]."
