Urgent meeting at Barcelona to discuss the signing of Man City's Eric Garcia

Acting president Tusquets has summoned Laporta, Font and Freixa to discuss the deal

SPORT have learned that Barcelona's acting president Carles Tusquets has called a meeting with the presidential candidates Joan Laporta, Victor Font and Toni Freixa, as well as sporting director Ramon Planes to talk about Eric Garcia.

The meeting will take place on Friday at 7pm. The intention is to speak specifically about sporting issues as the presidential election has now been set for March 7.

Manchester City defender Garcia will be the main focus of the meeting. The centre-back has been a transfer target for a while and in the last meeting it was decided to wait until June, when his contract expires in England and he will be available for free.

However, in Friday's meeting, they will discuss the possibility of signing him now, with coach Ronald Koeman and Font both keen on the signing. Font has sent Tuqsuets a letter asking for the signing to be made now, explaining why it would cost Barça very little this season -- less than €300,000.

Font said City want €3 million plus add ons but will accept the payment at a later date, while Garcia is willing to forgo a salary until the end of the season. He wants to play and be in Luis Enrique's Spain plans this summer at the European Championships.
