Soto Grado has taken charge of them twice this term, in stumbles at Getafe and Cadiz

The RFEF have announced Cesar Soto Grado will take charge of Barca’s game against Cornella on Thursday in the Copa del Rey. Barcelona have crossed paths with him twice this season and both times it has not been good for the Catalans.

The first was against Getafe on Nov 17, a 1-0 defeat, and the second was three weeks later at Cadiz, where they fell 2-1.

The Getafe game was particularly controversially after Nyom’s behaviour, with the defender guilty of various offences that should have seen him dismissed. However he avoided a yellow until the 73rd minute.

Despite Getafe fouling far more, he handed three of seven yellow cards to Barca. He also awarded Getafe a penalty for a foul on Djene by De Jong.

Against Cadiz it was Barca’s own mistakes that cost them, however.

Soto Grado has taken charge of 10 games this season with a balance of 41 yellows, no red cards and four penalties given, one against Barca. This will be the fourth game he’s taken charge of in this Copa del Rey.

He was also the man with the whistle in his mouth for Madrid’s 0-0 draw at Osasuna in freezing Pamplona snow.
