But the interim president says it's essential to reduce the wage bill now

"To put it simply, Barcelona's financial situation is not comfortable."

That how the club's interim president Carles Tusquets analysed the club's current mess, saying that wage deferrals are essential to help the sustainability of the club. "We don't want to take money from anyone," he said of the negotiations.

Tusquets was speaking in a press conference on Monday as head of managing board put together following the resignation of president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board of directors last week.

"We have to reduce spending in the short-term," Tusquets said. "On Nov. 5, the negotiation table ends and we hope to reach an agreement with the players and non-playing staff."

In this sense, he said the amount Barça need to recover during the current season is around 300 million euros.

"It's essential at the moment to reduce outgoings and look for ways to increase revenue which currently don't exist," Tusquets added.

He continued: "One of the biggest revenue streams is tourism, even more so than television rights. Last year, before the pandemic, Barça made 220 million euros just from Camp Nou. That amount is impossible to obtain in the current climate.

"All of our decisions can be revoked by the new board when a new president is elected."
