Tottenham's Eriksen is Barcelona's alternative to Griezmann

Tottenham's Eriksen is Barcelona's alternative to Griezmann

Barça believe the Danish midfielder would be a great signing at Camp Nou

Barcelona have done their homework and know the players they want to sign this summer. They even have alternatives to their primary targets in place.

Maybe the most significant of them is Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen. The Danish international is the option if, for whatever reason, Antoine Griezmann doesn’t sign.

Obviously, they are two different players, but the club feel Philippe Coutinho’s versatility (he can play in midfield or further forward) wouldn’t prohibit a move for Eriksen.

Griezmann is top of the list. Barça have spoken with him and know of his desire to grow professionally. Meanwhile, his €100 million release clause makes him affordable in the current market.

The club have also prepared another list, though, with Eriksen on it.

If they ended up signing the Spurs midfielder, it would see Coutinho play further forward, with Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Ousmane Dembele.

However, it’s not an easy operation to do. Spurs signed him from Ajax for €13.5m but would not let him go on the cheap.

They have renewed coach Mauricio Pochettino’s contract and are about to move into a new stadium, leaving them in a strong position for the future.

Now they want to renew their star players’ contracts: Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Eriksen…

They all see their futures in London, too, but Eriksen may not be so clear if Barça appear on the horizon.
