Tottenham Hotspur meddle in Memphis Depay's transfer from Barça to Juventus

Memphis' departure is all but set but may take some time yet. Juventus are the front-runners to sign the Dutch striker, although Barça are looking for a deal to avoid having him leave on a free transfer.

According to the 'Gazzetta dello Sport', Tottenham, who were on the lookout for alternatives, are back on the scene and have given the player's entourage pause. Memphis wants both a big salary and a Champions League team and is in no hurry to find a place as he has many options.

Juve have been pushing hard for days through an intermediary close to the two clubs. Barça accepted the proposal of a loan with option to buy, but complications forced Sebastien Ledure, the player's lawyer, to interrupt the agreement, who instead offered the player to the Italians as a free transfer. The new plan being explored will have Juventus compensate FC Barcelona with a more objective payment, and the player could earn a high salary for at least two years in Turin.

A summit meeting with Memphis' lawyers is scheduled for today in Barcelona to press the case forward and reports from Italy claim that Juve's former sporting director, Fabio Paratichi, made a final attempt with both Barça and the player. Memphis prioritises Juventus but is looking for the best deal and will not sign until he is sure. Barça would like to resolve this departure before Saturday, to help them register their players.
