In Argentina they are beginning to talk about Marcelo Gallardo's plans for the future should he decide to leave River Plate. French clubs AS Monaco and PSG have been linked with a move for the successful Argentine coach but so too are FC Barcelona.
On TNT Sports programme 'Primera Tapa', the journalist Fernando Czyz claims Gallardo is Barça's first choice should things not improve quickly at the Camp Nou.
The same person goes on to say that Gallardo has spoken with the directors at Barça but distanced himself from any talks whilst River were still involved in the Copa Libertadores, as well as the Copa Argentina.
NOT AN EASY SITUATION
River Plate wouldn't make it easy for Barça either as Gallardo has a contract until 2021. This was done to ward off previous interest from Europe.
No one has lost track of the impressive work the coach has done at his boyhood club and Argentina even wanted him to take charge of the national team.
The last coach who abandoned South America to take charge of Barça was Gerardo Martino and he enjoyed very limited success.
Could Gallardo be the next Barça coach?
