Thomas Vermaelen has missed 240 games through injury
104 with Barcelona, 88 with Arsenal, 17 at Roma and 31 at Ajax
Thomas Vermaelen played on Saturday normally against Real Valladolid. But on Sunday Barcelona said he is injured, suffering a calf problem. He will miss the Champions League clash with Lyon.
Vermaelen had started featuring recently, against Leganes, Valencia and Valladolid he started.
This is only a light problem but it is the third he has suffered this season.
Vermaelen’s whole career has been marked with injuries.
At Ajax, Arsenal, Barca and Roma there have always been problems.
The statistics are murky and it’s hard to be 100 per cent accurate, but we have found that since the age of 20 he has suffered 27 injuries which he has missed at least one game for on each occasion.
The first documented was in Feb 2007, keeping him out for 10 games. In total he has missed 240 games across his career because of injuries. Around four to five seasons’ worth.
