This is the squad Xavi wants for the 2022-23 season

The coach has clear desires and the club are working towards making it happen

FC Barcelona’s directors don’t like speaking of transition seasons because the club is always obliged to try and win it all. Next season is no exception. The squad will be reinforced this summer. They have won just one title in their last 13 competitions - the 2021 Copa del Rey.

Xavi Hernandez will get his first full season in charge. Xavi wants to make a competitive team, and had clear ideas over which areas to reinforce - full backs, centre-back, striker and the centre of the midfield.

In goal will be Ter Stegen and Inaki Pena as his back up. Right back, Azpilicueta and Sergino Dest. At left back, Jordi Alba and Marcos Alonso. In the centre of defence, Pique, Araujo, Eric, Christensen and Xavi hopes also Jules Kounde from Sevilla.

Busquets, Pedri, Gavi and Nico will be the midfielders, plus Sergi Roberto and new signing Kessie. De Jong maybe too, depending on if he stays or goes, and if he goes, then Bernardo Silva is the targeted replacement from Man City.

Up front, Xavi will have Aubameyang and potentially Robert Lewandowski, if the club reach a deal with Bayern. On the left, Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati, and on the right, Ousmane Dembele and possibly Raphinha.

It’s a squad that is sufficient for Barcelona to be candidates to win any competition in the 22-23 season.
