Bild report the midfielder weighed up a possible return to the Spanish league
Thiago Alcántara planned a return to FC Barcelona or the Spanish league in recent weeks. According to Bild, the midfielder asked Bayern Munich for time when they offered him a new contract and, during that time, he spoke with his family about returning home. However, the German club's sporting project ended up convincing him and he's close to renewing his terms with the Bundesliga leaders.
Bild revealed that Thiago met with the Bayern hierarchy on May 4 in the offices at Säbener Strasse. In said meeting, the two parties moved closer to agreement over a contract extension, with his current deal expiring in 2021, but add that the Spain international asked for more time.
Thiago analysed the situation with his partner and the idea of taking their two children back to Spain was also discussed. Finally, the decision reached was to renew with Bayern, who moved seven points clear at the top of the table in midweek with their win away at title rivals Borussia Dortmund.
